Discovery Park Photographer: Seattle Bluffs Portrait Guide

Discovery Park is large enough that “meet at the park” is not a useful meeting plan. Agree on an exact entrance or landmark and choose whether the session is about the bluffs, wooded trails, or the beach.

Dramatic coastal bluffs and Puget Sound mountain view during golden hour at Discovery Park in Seattle

Choose the route before the date

Bluff views and the lighthouse beach involve different routes and walking time. Do not promise both before checking the route and your comfort with slopes. Share mobility needs and footwear limits early. Use the official park map to pick a meeting point and return route.

Stay back from bluff edges

We can frame the Sound and open sky from established paths and safe viewpoints. A dramatic photo does not need a cliff-edge pose. Follow signs, avoid closed trails, and keep bags clear of the path. Ask about a gentler route if heights make you uncomfortable.

Dress for coastal wind

The temperature can feel different near the water than it did at your car. Bring a layer that works with your outfit and shoes with grip. Wind can add movement to hair and clothing, but strong gusts may make an exposed location unsuitable. Check the forecast again before leaving.

Confirm park photography arrangements

When we plan your session, I’ll recommend the best entrance, match the trail loop to your footwear, and walk you through any park permit options or permit-free backup spots. Access and closures can change, so we’ll check the park page before the shoot.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can we drive straight to the lighthouse?

Do not assume beach access by car is available. Check the official park information for current access arrangements and choose a route you can comfortably walk.

Is sunset the only good time?

No. Clouds can soften light, and wooded sections can provide shade. The meeting time should fit the chosen route and safe return rather than rely only on a sunset photo.
